Global Standards Used in MPM-MURI Record Breaking Event 2025

The MPM-MURI 2025 Record Breaking Event employs two internationally recognized English assessment standards to ensure accurate and comprehensive evaluation of language proficiency:

CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

is the internationally established guideline used across Europe and increasingly worldwide to describe foreign language achievements. It employs a six-level classification system (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) that categorizes learners from basic users to proficient users. Established by the Council of Europe between 1986-1989, CEFR has become the European standard for grading individual language proficiency and is widely accepted for educational and employment evaluation.

GSE (Global Scale of English) by Pearson.

The GSE is a granular numerical scale ranging from 10-90 that provides detailed measurement of English language skills. Unlike traditional broad classifications, the GSE offers precise progress tracking and motivation for learners by showing incremental skill development over shorter time periods. This Pearson-developed framework serves as the “intelligence powering every element of learning journeys” and represents a significant advancement in performance-based language assessment.

This historic achievement proves that coordinated national efforts can create meaningful change in education, establishing Indonesia as a leader in innovative language assessment methodologies.

Assessment Framework and Tools

The MPM–MURI Record-Breaking English Assessment utilized the Pearson English Assessment Suite, a globally recognized platform for measuring English language proficiency across different learner age groups and proficiency levels. The assessment was designed to cover four core language skills — Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing — using a combination of test types tailored to participant profiles.
